- Cucido
I have always been a fan of fish soups and I am always looking for new and exciting dish. In my travel to Bicol, I experienced a very fantastic and mouth-watering dish called Cucido. Cucido is Bicolano soup dish made of fish. kamote tops, tomatoes, calamansi, onions radish and large chilis. It is like sinigang but the soup is clearer. This wonderful dish is available at some turo-turo or native restaurants. For this food trip experience, I tasted this in our friend’s house in Legaspi, Albay. They served Cucido with Blue Marlin.
Bicol has always been my delight when it comes to eating and food tripping. They have plenty of delectable dishes to choose from. Good company to be with you and a Cucido that will truly satisfy your craving for a fish soup. Very healthy and very delicious.

Grill Plus Barbeque
I have a confession to make. I am a barbeque person. And being a barbeque person takes too much of my time and money to search for this grill that can satisfy my taste. In Naga, I found one and the name is Grill Plus. Although they have a wide array of menu, still their barbeque caught my attention. Its the barbeque that I appreciated, soft and tender, juicy and can blend very well with my concoction of soy, calamansi and chilis.

Menu of Grill PLus
I went there with my friend Marnie. After a long and hectic day of work he brought me to this place since I was craving for barbeque. I was very much satisfied not only to their grill but they have a clam soup that was really soothing and relieving after every sip. It was very good with the barbeque. There is also a R&B band playing beside where you can also have a couple of drinks.

Front of Grill Plus
Grill Plus is located along Magsaysay avenue cor. of Penafrancia ave. (friends from Naga, please correct the location if wrong) They have a very nice resto that can easily catch your attention because of the cube panaflex billboard. I like their punch line “mmhh…sarap na nkk-addict!”. I guess that is true. I will pay them a visit once I get back to Naga City, Camsur. I might be addicted already to their barbeque. Cheers and happy eating to everyone.

Molo Soup of JD Bakery Cafe @ Iloilo Airport

View at Iloilo Airport
Waiting for your plane departure at Iloilo going to Manila is not boring. It is because at Iloilo Airport, you can taste a very good Molo soup at JD Bakery Café. I discovered this when I rushed to Sta. Barbara airport just to make sure I will not be late for my fight back to Manila. The molo soup was served steamingly hot. The garlic and leeks made it tastier and the dumplings of the soup, was a total pleasure to my taste palette.

Inside Iloilo Airport

Upon arriving at the airport, I roamed around to have a food to eat. I haven’t eaten my breakfast and this gave me the drive to look for a resto that will satisfy my hunger. My hunger brought me to JD bakery Café that is located inside the waiting area of the airport. To my surprise, JD bakery Café is not like the other restaurants inside the waiting area in Manila where the prices are really soaring very high. It is very friendly to you budget. Even the cakes, you may buy it as low as 12 pesos.

Inside JD Bakery Cafe
I tried some of the food to partner with my “hot and garlicy” molo soup. The chicken curry is also good. My friend tried their beef teriyaki. According to him, It was also delicious. My molo soup and chicken curry is just less than a hundred pesos.

Another Angle Inside JD Bakery Cafe
I even saw some of the pilot who went down to this shop to buy cakes and pastries to which they will bring it to Manila as their pasalubong. That is the reason why waiting for your plane at Iloilo airport is worth the wait because of JD Bakery Café.

Super Special Batchoy
It is a must to have La Paz Batchoy when you are in Iloilo most specially when you are in the place where it was born, at La Paz. La Paz Batchoy is common at the place and there is a well known institution that has been serving this for a generation. That is Teds Oldtimer La Paz Batchoy. I remember then, during my first job around mid 90’s, my friends who were assigned at Iloilo would always talk about the tasty La Paz Batchoy of Teds Oldtimer. When I got the change to go to the place, I did not let this opportunity passed.

Inside Ted's Oldtimer
I ordered for their Super Special La Paz Batchoy. It was so special that the soup itself really tasted great. I finished the soup and I had a refill for free. That is common at all Ted’s branches. La Paz Batchoy has a different taste from other noodle soup. It has a taste of sweetness that I cannot describe.

It was delicious and very much inviting to sip the soup again and again. The toppings were pork strips and chicharon (popped pork skin) with fresh egg. You may also opt for different noodles like misua if that is your preference. For me, I still prefer the original miki noodles and I partnered it with puto (rice cake).
Where to find
Here is a video that I took inside Ted’s Oldtimer La Paz Batchoy Robinson’s Place, Iloilo
TED’s Oldtimer La Paz Batchoy
Ted’s Old Timer La Paz Batchoy can be found not only around every corner of Iloilo city, but to its neighboring town as well. Ted has been in the batchoy business for a long time and have been recognize as one of Iloilo’s institution when it comes to culinary culture. For this entry, I went to their Robinson’s Place Brach in the City. They have a very accommodating staff and a clean “fastfood” style of resto. This is something you should not miss when you go to Iloilo or with in the province of Panay. Kanamit gid!!!

In Visayas and Mindanao, there are plenty of “Balbacuahans” in every corner of the streets. However, there are only few who cooked is so well that the name of their restaurants linger everytime you hear the word Balbacua.

In General Santos city, there is this Balbacuahan that is frequented by people in all walks of life. Even if it is a little bit far from the city, people still go there. The taste that lingers to those who tasted it can attest that they have created this soup so well. If you go there during lunch time, you will have a hard time to have a seat because the place is crowded. Better to be there around 11:00AM just to make sure that you’ll have you place to dine.

Where to Find

Aweng’s Balbacuahan is located along the National Highway, Calumpang, General Santos. It is the road going to Sarangani provinces. When you are in General Santos City, never miss this change to drop by Awengs and have a taste of their Balbacua. The taste will surely entice you to its spell.

Davao
There are many varieties of beef soup dishes. In Davao, this restaurant has formulated its own and called it Bulca Chong in year 2000. It cannot be compared to Bulalo because the soup is thick and the taste is different. The soup is also reddish and a little bit gingerly in taste. But this is very delicious. The soup is rich blended with meat. The main part of the soup is Carabao meat. It is a little bit similar to Kansi in Iloilo. This is one unique soup and a must try most specially for Bulalo Lovers.
Bulca Chong is located at General Luna at the heart of Davao,s down town area near Gaisano Illustre. The best of Davao is not only fruits but also the rich talents and culinary masterpieces their restaurants has to offer. When in Davao, never forget to drop by Bulca Chong to experience this unique soup dish. RAPSA SA TORO!!!

Davao
When they say there is a restaurant that is being frequented by taxi drivers, the food must taste good. The reason is that, these city dwellers know where to have the best of the best when it comes to gastronomic experience. Carlitos Nilaga house serves this soup dish that is very delicious. We were able to discover this way back 1999 in Matina, Davao. We were wondering that why there were plenty of parked taxis at the place. When we tried their Nilagang Baka, the taste went beyond our expectation. Both taste and price did satisfied us. They cooked their Nilagang Baka slow through firewood. You can even ask for extra soup with no extra charge.
Where to find
Carlitos has no signage. The location is along Mc Arthur Highway around 100 meters from GSIS Village main gate, Matina Davao City. It is very near Metrobank Matina Branch. As what I mentioned, it is easy to find because there are plenty of taxis parked in front of their restaurant. They are open 24 hrs a day. This is a must try and best if you feel sluggish and you need to wake up your veins. A real power food!!!
