Election Feast

As a Filipino, we have our obligation to vote for the leaders who will pull us away for the river of poverty and corruption. This day is special for us and also a day to gather and watch-out what’s happening.   This day is the national election and each and every family had the change to gather and feast.

My family and I went to Mandaluyong to where we are registered to vote. After voting in the morning, we went straight to the house of my brother for a sumptuous outdoor lunch.

Our mom prepared our favorite meal that is composed of lechon kawali, tinolang manok, inihaw na bagus and beef with mushroom.  It was a very good lunch while we were discussing the election and what our country might become after this day.

Right after eating, we went straight to their entertainment room to witness what is going around the country even through our Tv screens. This was an afternoon of frozen Margaritas and pizzas that concluded our discussion about the Philippine politics.

As a conclusion, we did not have the result of the election right after it open at 7:00pm today, but the chance to gather again for a lazy afternoon right after we casted our vote gave more meaning to what our family is all about. Love, Closeness, and Good food.

Noche Buena

Christmas time is another day of the year that we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Since its His birthday, there are plenty of celebrations worldwide. For us, the Noche Buena one of the most wonderful time for a feast of great food, closeness of family and reflection on the birth of our Lord.

For our part, since we are a large family, we celebrate it together with our relatives. We organize games and gift giving. We make sure that the food in the dinning table will continuously flow for those who would like to eat in our family and friends who pay us a visit. Not to mention, it is also the time to share our blessings with our less fortunate brothers and sisters. Our Noche Buena table is for all of those who want and need to eat.

After the Noche Buena, we also have a private celebration in our own house.  For this, we drank wine and ate bread.

That concludes our day and a prayer that all be blessed by the coming of our Lord.

Lunch Buffet at Sabang Bay

Lunch Buffet

Right after the travel at the subterranean river, we went straight to Sabang Bay to have our Lunch buffet.

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River

Towering Column going to the Subterranean River

This was the way going to the underground river. I was stunned by the magnificent natural watch tower.

Bay at the subterranean River

This wall of rocks secures the bay where the underground river is located. By the way, the underground river is the Philippines’ entry to the seven natural wonders of the world.

Going inside the Undergroud River

After the underground adventure, It was a wonderful experience to eat beside the beach.

Buffet

For this lunch,  they served grilled fish, grilled pork, kamote tops, cucumber, Chicken Pork Adobo, grilled squid, mechado and many more that I cannot recall. In this kind of place, it is always better to partner your food craving with the freshest coconut juice straight from the tree.

Araw ng mga Ina

This day is very special to all of us because one way or another we have a link to our mothers.  For us, we have 4 mothers. 1st is my wife, 2nd is the wife of my brother, 3rd is our dear mother, and 4th is my mother-in-law.  We had our gathering for a sumptuous lunch in my brothers place in Mandaluyong.  It was a very good lunch.  We have lechon kawali, Nido Soup, Pocherong Pata and Inihaw na Bangus.  For dessert, we had ripped mangoes and Vanilla Ice Cream.  After our win and dine, I brought my kids to the mall for their favorite place, “the Toy Store” and to satisfy their perpetual love to the kiddie rides.

Today, I will not do any picture entry, but I decided to post the poem that I created for today’s special occasion.  I did this last Friday as an entry to a poem competition in our company for Mother’s Day but it doesn’t matter if this entry wins. I created this as a reminder to each and everyone about our mothers and our wives:

Naaalala mo pa ba?

Tila nakalimutan mo na?

sa simulat-simula pa, nasa kandungan ka niya.

bawat iyak mo’y naka abang,

Magsing-dugo, parehong pintig,

Pagkat nanggaling ka sa kanya.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers in the world!!!

Luto ni Nanay

Saucy Wong

After spending too much of the cholesterol overload at barbeques, bulalo, durian, inasal and beer, I decided to eat at a simple restaurant with veggies, simple food, simple dessert, simple soup but all were delicious. I came into this eatery and it is called Nanay’s eatery. They have this specialty of the house called Saucy Wong. This is one breaded meat with plenty of sauce that is mouthwateringly great!!!

Kinilaw na Langka

Another great stuff in Nanay’s eatery is the Kinilaw na Langka. It is jack fruit served with vinegar sauce. Delicious padin!!! I also had ginisang Baguio Beans.

Ginisang Baguio Beans

Wow!! This is really a food tripping. What about the fish dish? Of course!!! There should be two and that is paksiw na galunggong and another kinilaw na dilis.

Paksiw na Isda

Kilawing Dilis

Cassava Cake

Sometimes we look for known and flamboyant places only to find out that what they serve are very simple to make and commercial in taste. There reason for it is because who i in charge of the kitchen? Some are those who studied in prestigious culinary schools whose creation are more of the presentation and not on the taste. The taste is what these small carenderias leverages on and not too much on the presentation. That is also the reason why people frequented these places because most of the time, the owner is the cook. It is like eating in the house and the prices are much less than the big and known restaurants.

Where to find

Nanay’s Eatery is along J.P. Laurel st. Lanang Davao city. It is beside Bayan Building and infront of Grand Regal Hotel and Casino. This restaurant are frequented by people for the near by offices. They are open as early as 7:00am and open before 9:00pm. This is one restaurant in Davao that I use to go since 1999. Up to now, they still serves one of the best Lutong Bahay in the area. When Davao, don’t forget to pay Nanay a visit in her humble restaurant that serves awesome food!!! Iba parin ang luto ni Nanay.
