Kinamot sa Abgao

Maasin at the Port Area

It was a good feeling to be back in Maasin. The last time I went to this Southern tip of Eastern Visayas was two years ago.  Now, it has progressed but still remained the southern charm that it have.

Its been a long time since last visited and it has always fascinated me to roam around in this lovely city. My favorite part, the port area.

View from Kinamot sa Abgao

In Maasin, there is this great restaurant that is known for its great food and warm accommodation.  The first time that I went there was around 2006.  The name is Kinamot sa Abgao.  It has improved.  Now, they have a hotel beside the restaurant.

Kinamot sa Abgao

Going inside Kinamot

Kinamot is a word in Visayas to “eat using your bare hands”.  We Filipinos are familiar with this way of eating and there is a proper etiquette in doing so.  You may either use your left or right but you have to make sure that your other hand is not used.  There are exemptions like eating shrimps, crabs and shells but as much as possible, it is avoided.  In eating using your hands, you have to make sure that the food that you take is just enough to enter your mouth and must be very clean afterwards.

Going back to the restaurant, it is situated just beside the breakwaters. You will experience a cool breeze of the sea.  We even saw fishermen catching fish while we were dinning.

Inside Kinamot sa Abgao

Here are the foods that are must have:

Kinilaw

One of the best tasting kinilaw that I ever had.  The combination of sweetness and the tang our sourness plus the freshness of the fish has made this a fantastic dish.  This is highly recommended.

Inihaw Platter

Inihaw platter is a combination of grilled fish, squid, pork bacon, beef and chicken.  At first we thought at this is just a small dish good for two.  But then it came, we were three and still we had a hard time finishing it.  This complimented the kinilaw.  The grilled squid was cooked just right leaving it very soft.

San Miguel Pale Pilsen

The kinilaw and the inihaw platter were great with with a bottle of San Miguel Pale Pilsen.  The combination of grill and kinilaw is the perfect match here in Kinamot.  They also have a hotel beside the resto named Villa Romana Hotel.  When you go to Maasin Southern Leyte, never miss this opportunity to eat beside the bay with one of the best kinilaw and gilled that I tasted.  Bare in mind, Kinamot sa Abgao.

Eating @ Sir Boy’s Food Republique

After our training in Quezon City, my boss said that there is a nice place to eat along Panay avenue that is affordable with a very good ambiance.  At first I was thinking, is there such a thing as that? When you say good ambiance for a restaurant, it is usually associated with a good price.  He informed me that this place is owned by Boy Abunda and his business partner Boy So. That drew my curiosity aside from a celebrity owned resto, I really want to taste their food.

Going inside Sir Boy's Food Republique

My first observation was, they have a very accommodating guard who guided us to be parked. Then I headed towards the entrance and I was received by two beautiful ladies who are truly blessed with a lovely smile. The place was huge and definitely it can accommodate a lot of people. The price, superb!!! You can have unlimited buffet dinner for 100 pesos plus additional 25 for the drinks.

Lining up for the food

The food was a six course menu with soup rice and dessert.  You can go back as many as you can as long as you finish what you get.  No wasting of food.  Just get enough what you can chew.

Six Dish Menu

I started with my first batch on the buffet. It was spaghetti, beef tenderloin tips some vegetables and some sweet and sour pork.  It was pretty good but I like the beef tips better. It was soft and very flavorsome.

My First Food Plate

Since I can’t get enough of their food, I again got my second place. This time, no spaghetti.  I added fried tilapia and of course, my favorite beef tenderloin tips.

My Second Food Plate

It was so delicious and the ambiance was really great. However, I still cannot satisfy my taste buds. I went back again and I got additional spaghetti.

More Spaghetti

After which, i suddenly knew that I was not yet finish eating.  It is because I saw their dessert that happened to be one of my favorite.

Buko Pandan

IT was really a very good food adventure and what I like about this place is that, you don’t have to spend so much to keep yourself full plus a very beautify interior coupled with the great customer servicing.  For the budget conscious, that is one of the place to be in Manila. Sir Boy’s Food Republic is along Panay Ave. Quezon City.  Congrats to Tito Boy Abunda and his business partner Boy So.  I will surely go back and I will tell my friends about this wonderful dining experience at Sir Boy’s Food Republique.

Rapsa Cruise Adventure – Day 4 Exploring Malacca, Malaysia

It was always a good day to wake up in the cruise.  When I woke up, I went straight to Windjammers to take a very good breakfast buffet again.

There was always a party, day and night. After listening to this and playing at the casino, Lunch was served again.  Here were the shots of what I ate and other that my eyes feasted on.

Roaming around Melaka Megamall

Just Roaming Around

This Tricycle caught my attention. What we have in the Philippines are tricycle with loud music but not with flowers. As far as I can recall, I saw this in one of the"Flores De Mayo" Festival where the damsel was processioned sitting on a tricycle with flowers. This might be a very good style. Customers are treated with beauty and elegance through flowers and sounds.

Going to the Skyride

This was my first time to be near a real Galleon.

More Exporation of the Place

After the long walk, my friends decided to take a merienda break. We decided to have some Roti Susu and Roti Kaya.  Roti susu is a flat breat with condense milk inside. Roti Kaya is the same flat brea but with a coco jam. It was good with a hot team.  I got the opportunity to take a shot when the roti was prepared and cooked.

After eating, we went straight to the port. We did not noticed but our 4 hours was already spent walking and exploring the place.  When We got to the ship we went straight to our cabin. Too tired to perpare for another formal dinner at Romeo and Juliet, we decided to go back to Windjammers to a casual a sumptous dinner.

I started with the sushi before going to main dish. Not that bad but I prefer it spicier.

Nene’s Mechado

Nene's Mechado

“Do not be deceived by the looks for the taste will reveal the true picture of the food”. Homemade foods are like that. They are perfected through time. That is one treasure not to be missed. We just came from a gathering in Mandaluyong and one of the best food I look forward to is “Mechado” by Nene. Mechado is served as a stew viand known in the Philippines. What makes her mechado different from others? The technique was handed down from generations to generations who’s origin started with matriarch of the Archangel Clan of Sta. Ana Manila in the mid of 1800s. Same technique is still used up to date. Her Mechado is always the star on the dining table and always been ordered by those who know her everytime there is an occasion.

 Where to find.

The creator is Nene Bautista who also originated from the Archangel clan of Sta. Ana, Manila ,but is now residing in Mandaluyong. Her location is at Aglipay st. near Kalentong, Mandaluyong City. If you want to taste this old recipe of Mechado, you may contact her at (02)531-8875 or at (02)534-2029. She has establish the Mechado as one of her signature in her culinary masterpiece.

Molo Soup at JD Bakery Cafe

Molo Soup of JD Bakery Cafe @ Iloilo Airport

View at Iloilo Airport

Waiting for your plane departure at Iloilo going to Manila is not boring. It is because at Iloilo Airport, you can taste a very good Molo soup at JD Bakery Café. I discovered this when I rushed to Sta. Barbara airport just to make sure I will not be late for my fight back to Manila. The molo soup was served steamingly hot.  The garlic and leeks made it tastier and the dumplings of the soup, was a total pleasure to my taste palette.

Inside Iloilo Airport

Upon arriving at the airport, I roamed around to have a food to eat.  I haven’t eaten my breakfast and this gave me the drive to look for a resto that will satisfy my hunger.  My hunger brought me to JD bakery Café that is located inside the waiting area of the airport.   To my surprise, JD bakery Café is not like the other restaurants inside the waiting area in Manila where the prices are really soaring very high. It is very friendly to you budget. Even the cakes, you may buy it as low as 12 pesos.

Inside JD Bakery Cafe

I tried some of the food to partner with my “hot and garlicy” molo soup.  The chicken curry is also good. My friend tried their beef teriyaki. According to him, It was also delicious. My molo soup and chicken curry is just less than a hundred pesos.

Another Angle Inside JD Bakery Cafe

I even saw some of the pilot who went down to this shop to buy cakes and pastries to which they will bring it to Manila as their pasalubong. That is the reason why waiting for your plane at Iloilo airport is worth the wait because of JD Bakery Café.

Aweng’s Balbacua

In Visayas and Mindanao, there are plenty of “Balbacuahans” in every corner of the streets.  However, there are only few who cooked is so well that the name of their restaurants linger everytime you hear the word Balbacua.

In General Santos city, there is this Balbacuahan that is frequented  by people in all walks of life. Even if it is a little bit far from the city, people still go there.  The taste that lingers to those who tasted it can attest that they have created this soup so well.  If you go there during lunch time, you will have a hard time to have a seat because the place is crowded.  Better to be there around 11:00AM just to make sure that you’ll have you place to dine.

Where to Find

Aweng’s Balbacuahan is located along the National Highway, Calumpang, General Santos. It is the road going to Sarangani provinces.  When you are in General Santos City, never miss this change to drop by Awengs and have a taste of their Balbacua. The taste will surely entice you to its spell.

Crispy Tadjang ng Baka at Kawi’s Tavern

Eating and drinking are the favorite past time of us Filipinos. I see it not as the act itself, but the moment we share with our friends, love ones and those who are special to us. Valuing our priorities leads us to a festive celebration either in large or a simple small one. This is another experience of mine with the Crispy tadjang ng Baka (beef ribs) at Kawi’s Tavern. When my friend knew that I was in Tacloban city, they arrange a simple nightout since the last time we saw each other was 3 year ago. When I grabbed the menu, this thing appealed to me. I asked for it just to try at first to test if they are comparable to the Crispy Tadjang that I tasted. It was indeed very delicious.  It was so delicious that we have to order another dish to compensate our craving for it.

Where to Find

The Crispy Tadjang ng Baka of Kawi’s Tavern may be found at Tacloban Coliseum, beside Cancabato Bay, Tacloban City. It was a bar facing the tranquil bay.  This place is not to be missed when you are in the Tacloban. The area around the Tacloban Coliseum has transformed into a place of night out, fun and fine dining. Never miss too the Crispy Tadjang ng Baka of Kawi’s Tavern. It will surely be a hit to and to your friends.
