Machang of Luk Yen
When I crave for dim sum and dumpling, this for sure is one thing that I cannot miss. It is machang. Machang is a dim sum made of rice with meat and shrimp wrapped by lotus leaf and steamed. When I go for my dumplings food trip, I always have this as my substitute to my rice. It goes very well with a concoction of soy, chili sauce and calamansi.

Undressed Machang
This makes it more enticing to have it with other dumplings like, hakaw, shomai, shark’s fin, and my favorite chicken feet.

For this entry, I have to give my gratitude to this restaurant that has never failed my expectation when it comes to machang and other dumplings and that is Luk Yen. Satti
This is one popular breakfast dish in Zamboanga similar to the Malaysian satay. It is made of chicken, chicken liver, beef or combination of those. The barbeque is not as long as the barbeque we are accustomed to but it is a 3 piece of meat per stick. It is a barbeque and sticky rice soaked in a bowl of sweet spicy sticky soup. The result is a meal that is suitable to be called a breakfast meal because it is a very good stimulant food to start your day right. For this, I had chicken satti which is my favorite. The taste is great most specially if you have the soup served steamingly hot. This wonderful meal is something rare in the Metro that is another reason I encourage you to experience it.

Sitti's Halal Foods
When I was still a student in grade school, I remember that in our school cafeteria, we would flock to have this stall to have a sizzling meal and one of the bestseller then is Sizzling Tapa. There is this sizzling tapa that reminded me of my gradeschool days. Yes fellow foodies, it is the sizzling Tapa of Steak Break. They have a very generous amount of rice and tapa and best for a hot sizzling dish is to have a load full of gravy. That is the way they serve their sizzling dishes. The taste of the tapa is just right and it will not be complete without a side dish of corn, diced carrots, and green peas.
Where to find
You can find this Sizzling Tapa at Steak Break. It is located at 3rd floor Virramall, Greenhills Shopping complex. Lugaw at Tokwa't Baboy
Here is another lugawan that has a very delicious rice porridge, tofu and pork. Lugaw has been with us since the beginning of our life as a Filipino because one way or the other, we had our first taste of this when we are still young. Up to now, I still have the craving of having a bowl of lugaw specially when it is cold. Since it is boiled rice, it is not hard to digest. There are many great and delicious Lugawan which I posted in my previous entries and here is another which is different for the conventional lugawan but there is also lugawan in food carts.

You can find the delicious lugaw and tokwa’t baboy at Lugaw Republic at 3rd floor Virra Mall, Greehills Shopping Complex, San Juan City. Kat and I were enticed to have this because of the number of people who are lining up for their orders and people who were eating lugaw ( nanaka- iggit ang kain nila). It was a good lugaw and surely, we will come back to have it again when we visit the place.

- Tiyulah Itum
Tiyulah Itum is a Tausug dish. I just had my first taste of this famous dish at Sitti’s Halal Food. ‘Itum’ means black. When I went to Davao, my Tausug friends told me that there is this soup in Zamboanga that is steamingly hot, spicy and delicious. After which, I search for this in Davao, Gensan Butuan and Cagayan De Oro but I found none. Maybe I just have to make my search even harder. It is a black broth of beef or chicken flavored with ginger and turmeric and burnt coconut meat. This dish is served during special occasions: weddings, religious festivities, and other celebrations.

Sitti's Halal Food
In my search for this delicious soup, I was able to find one in Greenhills Shopping Complex at 3rd floor Virra Mall, San Juan city. The name of the restaurant is Sitti’s Halal Foods. If you order for this, allocate 5 minutes for re-heat. When you go there, look for Bernadette. She will accommodate you and guide you to experience Tausug cuisine. When I found this restaurant and tasted Tiyulah Itum, all of my frustrations for my search is gone most specially when I had my first sip of this authentic Tausug Dish. They also serve other Halal Foods that will surely satisfy your taste buds. When in Greenhills, don’t forget to pass by Sitti’s Halal Foods and experience the famous Tiyulah Itum.

Paraludos and Inangit
Ginataan has been a traditional merienda and has a lot of versions. There is one in Bicol that I tasted that is a little bit spicy because it is cooked with ginger. In the Visayas it is called Binignit and I tasted one that was served cold. In Nueva Ecija, ginataan is called Paraludos and this is served with Inangit or sticky rice. I was brought by my friend in this restaurant in Greenhills called Ponciana’s Kitchen that serves this familiar dish. According to him, it is eaten in Nueva Ecija with the sticky rice soaked in the coconut milk soup. Yummy!!! It was my first time to try this and it is not hard to find because it is available in Greehills shopping center.

Papaitan at Ponciana's Kitchen
When I go to the North, this is one dish that I will always have it is papaitan. In the metro, there are may Ilocano restaurants that serve this. One of the best that I tasted is from Ponciana’s Kitchen. I was informed that Ponciana’s had its humble beginnings in Gapan, Nueva Ecija. They were selling lutong bahay in area and they did grow. Now, Ponciana’s is available in the Metro. Their papaintan is made of beef intestines and other internal organs. It taste so good that you will be coming back for more. This dish fits every drinking session to pacify the amats (tipsiness). Hehe.
