Baked Ziti with Meatballs at aVeneto

It was the day of the hearts that we decided to go to one of our favorite Italian restaurant.  That is at a Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante.  We tried the baked ziti with meat balls and it was a fantastic meal. This restaurant haven’t failed our expectation when it comes to taste and quantity. Their pasta can serve 2 to 3 persons. Since we were only two, he had a very hearty pasta meals.

My first taste of a Veneto was at Mindanao ave. QC.  They have been there for a long period of time. If I’m not mistaken, it was around year 2002 when I had my first taste of their fantastic Italian dishes. For this entry, we had it at their newer branch at SM Hypermart, Fontera Verde compound, barangay Ugong, Pasig.  When ever we feel like eating pizza and pasta, a Vento comes first to our list. Try their baked ziti. If you crave for pasta with plenty of mozzarella cheese, this is the one

Shawarma

This Middle Eastern Arabic-style sandwich-like wrap has been very popular every since it was introduced widely in the 1990s in Manila.  It spread like wild fire in other areas through out the country. Somehow, it declined a little after its rapid growth, but now is regaining its strength and popularity in the Filipino market.  This wrap sandwich is one of my favorite most specially when I am in a hurry.  One of the best that I tasted is the Shawarma of Channel Food.  The serving is very generous and the taste is great.  Not to mention that their hot sauce is really hot.  You have a choice if you want it all meat or with veggies.

Where to find

The Shawarma of Channel Food may be found at Pioneer Centre Supermarket. It is along Pioneer street Barangay Kapitolyo, Pasig City.  Every time we go to that place, we always have this wonderful sandwich.  A very good comfort food for those in a rush or simply want to enjoy the taste.  This comfort food has become a natural craving for those to like eating.  A heaven sent creation that fits the Filipino taste buds.  Shawarma tayo!!!

Calamares by Chicken for the Road

This is one calamares that is perfectly cooked. They have perfected the crispiness of the breading and made the squid very soft. I remember a technique that was taught to me by one of our lineman in Bicol in how you can make the squid or cattle fish very soft and very tender. But I was never taught how to make a crispy coating outside. For my first attempt, I made the squid rubberized. Hehe. They is a technique that involves time, heat, color and smell that you have to master in order to have the right timing of crispiness and softness inside. In search for that quality, I found it at Chicken for the road. The blend of their squid wiht the red and green pepper has made it more delectable.

Pancit Canton at Orchids Hotel

Pancit Canton has always been known to us. I have a secret that was revealed to me by my friend Eric Medina from Pasig.  The Pancit Canton of Orchids Hotel is surely a knock out!!!  My wife and I went to this drive-in hotel in Pasig to check if this suggestion in true. Alas!!! It was a revelation! The pancit canton of Orchids Hotel will surely entice you to its spell.  They have expert cooks and a busy kitchen that you will appreciate.

Pancitg Canton at Orchids Hotel

We ordered for the medium size and when it came, we did not even expect that it is that big.  It is a about 4 inches thick, full of chicken, shrimps, leaks, calamari, squid balls, pork, carrots and some other vegetables.  It comes with an additional sauce that when you mix it with the pancit canton, it makes the combination even tastier.

Outside Orchids Hotel

Orchids Hotel is located at  Hillcrest drive( Henry Javier st) and Shaw Boulevard.  That is a drive-in hotel but you may come in just tell the attendant that you will order food.  You may order also per Bilao (native platter).  They are very good in their customer service and they will really entertain you.   As a matter of fact, the chef is the one who handled our order. JVery accommodating and nice people.  When you are in Pasig, don’t forget that there is a hotel where pancit canton is very delicious. Magpacanton ka naman!!! Advance Happy Valentines Day!!!

I cannot resist this sinful temptation when I got to Globake. This is another item that keeps me coming back to this shop.  Yema Cake. Yema is an local delicacy made of sugar, eggs, sometimes nuts are added and milk. This mixture is cooked slowly for a sticky texture. What more if you got a chance to taste it as a cake. Wow talaga!!! Super tasty. Take my word for it since I got mesmerized when I tasted this creation.

There is another empanada that I will truly recommend.  It is the pork and chicken empanada of Globake. Aside from their famous, Asado Siopao, this empanadas are fast becoming one of their flag products.  It is very creamy and taste so yummy.  They have created not like other empanadas where the bread is hard and the fillings are only few.  They have a generous fillings for it and the taste is even more delightful.
